Mid-way to universality! Explaining the CTI diplomatic approach ahead of UPR33

Monday, May 6, 2019

Read the reflections of the Head of the CTI Secretariat, Dr. Alice Edwards, on the type of support available for States to move towards ratifying and fully implementing the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and the lessons learned so far in the first five years of the cross-regional, intergovernmental initiative.

The 33rd session of the Universal Periodic Review, starting today at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, provides an important opportunity for States to consider recommendations to ratify UNCAT and to take action to adjust domestic policies and practices to combat torture and other ill-treatment.

Thanks to Universal Rights Group for the invitation and the opportunity, the blog is available here.
