18 March 2019, Geneva: The CTI Ambassadors of Chile, Denmark, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia and Morocco and the Head of the CTI Secretariat met today with Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to discuss torture prevention, ratification and cooperation.

The Ambassadors welcomed that despite the challenges in the world, the High Commissioner had encouraged the Human Rights Council to take an optimistic outlook and not to feel defeated.

The Ambassadors spoke about their shared aspiration of reaching universal ratification by 2024, with 30 States left to ratify; as well as the many positive examples of States ratifying and good practices of implementing the Convention in the past few years.

H.C. Bachelet congratulated the CTI Core States on their endeavours, recognised the unique approach of such a diverse group of States committed to this fundamental human rights issue, and offered her Office’s ever closer cooperation.
