The Gambia “In focus”

The Secretariat of the Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI) is pleased to release its latest “States parties in focus” entry, which is a series exploring the experiences of States around the ratification and implementation of the UN Convention against Torture (UNCAT). The aim of the series is to inspire and encourage other States to action on torture prevention and response.

CTI Gambia in focus

As part of the country’s democratic transition, the Government took the decision to ratify UNCAT and did so on 28 September 2018, in order to support the restoration of citizens’ trust in public institutions and to reform its legal framework, so that past abuses are never repeated.
