What is UNCAT all about? Watch new CTI animated video

On 26 June 2019, the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, CTI releases an animated video on the benefits of ratifying and realising the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (UNCAT).

In our encounters with stakeholders globally we are frequently being asked what UNCAT is all about, the benefits of ratification and implementation, and what can be done to support the global movement against torture and ill-treatment. We hope this video helps to answer these questions. As the only international human rights treaty guiding States to prevent and respond to torture and other ill-treatment, UNCAT is a key instrument to help States repair the wrongs of the past, to protect those in the present, and to encourage better conduct in the future. Through cooperation, diplomacy and know-how, CTI supports States to end the risk of torture and ill-treatment, and we hope the video will inspire States and others to join us in our journey towards universal ratification and active implementation of UNCAT.
