    Benefits of and challenges to UNCAT ratification and implementation in the Pacific

    On 27 and 28 October 2016, the CTI and the Government of Fiji supported by Universal Rights Group and the Association for the Prevention of Torture held a regional workshop for Pacific Small Island States (PSIDS) in Fiji on benefits of and challenges to ratifying and implementing the UN Convention against Torture.

    OSCE workshop on rehabilitation for victims of torture

    The CTI and the Government of Denmark partnered with the German Chairmanship of the OSCE, as well as the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, on a workshop held in Vienna on 12 October 2016 to explore the current and potential role of the OSCE in assisting participating States to implement their obligation to provide rehabilitation to victims of torture and other ill-treatment.

    Rehabilitation for victims of torture in the OSCE region

    On 23 and 24 June 2016, the CTI and the Government of Denmark in partnership with the German Chairmanship of the OSCE and DIGNITY - Danish Institute Against Torture - held a regional seminar in Copenhagen for States in the OSCE region to share experiences and practices on the implementation of torture victims' rights to rehabilitation.

    Preventing torture in police custody in MENA

    On 14 and 15 December 2015, the CTI, the Kingdom of Morocco and Wilton Park with the support of the Moroccan National Council for Human Rights held a regional seminar on how to prevent torture in police custody in the Middle East and North Africa with the participation of States from the region alongside torture prevention experts.

    Criminalising torture in national laws in sub-Saharan Africa

    On 5 and 6 April 2016, the CTI and the Government of Ghana in partnership with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights and the Association for the Prevention of Torture held a seminar for 24 sub-Saharan African States on criminalising torture in national legislations.

    Promoting ratification and meaningful implementation of UNCAT in the Caribbean region

    On 29 and 30 October 2015, the CTI and the Inter-American Institute for Human Rights jointly hosted in San José, Costa Rica, a workshop on the promotion of ratification and meaningful implementation of UNCAT for 10 Caribbean States and a number of anti-torture experts.

    How to preserve human dignity by preventing torture and ill-treatment in ASEAN

    Bali, 10-11 August 2015 - the CTI co-organized, together with the Indonesian representative to the ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and the Association for the Prevention of Torture, a two day regional workshop for ASEAN Member States focusing on preserving human dignity by preventing torture and ill-treatment in ASEAN.
